Victor Tam served as the Dean of the Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering Division at Foothill College for two years prior to coming to Santa Rosa Junior College. During this time, he focused on equity initiatives, which addressed college student readiness and barriers preventing transfer to 4-year universities or completion of career technical education goals. Prior to academic administration, he served as Associate Professor of Chemistry at Foothill College for seven years teaching primarily sophomore organic chemistry and biochemistry for allied health majors. In addition to a teaching career, Victor has held the positions of Chemistry Department Coordinator, STEM Internship Coordinator, and recently worked in collaboration with other faculty and staff to obtain a $650,000 NSF grant that provides scholarships and professional support over the next five years to support academically high achieving students who face financial barriers. Most recent, Victor was able to serve on an ad hoc committee through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine analyzing STEM education at minority-serving institutions. Their findings were recently published in December 2018. Victor holds a B.S. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC San Diego.
